About this course

'Abstract art' - also commonly referred to as "non-objective art", "non-figurative", "non-representational", is an umbrella term for any painting or sculpture which does not portray recognizable objects or scenes. There are varying degrees of abstraction: from semi-abstract to wholly abstract depending on how far detached the artistic expression is from reality. Thus a painting can be appreciated solely for its line, shape, colour and texture alone - it doesn't need to depict a natural object or scene.

 

Who is this course for?

This course is excellent for anyone starting their journey as an amateur artist learning to paint abstract paintings, who want to explore ways to be more adventurous and expressive but are not sure where or how to begin.

 

What will I learn?

In this course, you will explore and create art that embraces pure aesthetic values informed by formal art elements and design principles. Through the gradual process of abstraction, in which unwanted details and unimportant characteristics of an object are progressively stripped away, you will deliberately apply dot, line, geometric and organic shapes, and texture, to compose paintings defined by specific colour themes.

 

You will study and draw inspiration from the works of well-known abstract masters, among others, such as Joan Miró, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Pablo Picasso and Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

      4. Apply a variety of abstraction techniques

         2. Chalk Pastels or Oil Pastels (Dry media)
         3. Acrylic paper, canvas, pastel paper
         4. Flat and round brushes
         5. Rags; container for rinsing brushes; disposable palette
         6. Aprons

    

   What happens if I miss a lesson?

   We understand that as a busy working adult with multiple schedules to juggle, you may sometimes have to miss a lesson here and there due to last minute work commitments or family matters. At ARTEFAKTS, we adopt an open attendance approach and you will not be penalised or charged for missed lessons. Make-up sessions for missed lessons can be arranged at your convenience but must be utilised within 30 days from date of the missed session.
