WATERCOLOUR ESSENTIALS FOR THE URBAN SKETCHER

Watercolour is an exciting medium. Its immediacy and transparency are some of its most sought-after qualities. However, as a beginner unfamiliar with watercolour, it can be temperamental, unpredictable and even frustrating. In this course, you will learn how to control and tame it while harnessing its full creative potential. The course is ideal for the casual sketcher interested in learning proper watercolour techniques to add colour washes to their urban landscape sketches. The course will be conducted over seven, once-a-week sessions. Choose either Monday nights, 7pm-9.30pm OR Saturdays mornings 10am-12.30pm. New intake every two months i.e. April, June, August, October, December. You may sign up for a trial session – which is Lesson 1 – before you commit to the full course.

ABOUT THIS COURSE

This beginner's to intermediate course will introduce essential techniques for students to experience watercolours with various hands-on exercises and drills designed to impart technical mastery. These skills are essential to build confidence and develop muscle memory as well as improve visual and colour acuity. Relevant contextual studies will allow students to apply techniques learnt.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Students will learn to appreciate the unique properties of watercolour through guided exploration and technical exercises. Great Instructor

I just wanted to thank you again for the wonderful workshop this afternoon! My mom and I really enjoyed the whole process, and I think that you were a great instructor– you explained the key concepts in a way that was simple to understand for complete beginners and for myself, you gave me pointers on how to improve my technique.

GIVE THIS A GO!

Jeffrey was a patient and knowledgeable teacher. His experience in his practice is evident in the way he shares little tips and techniques to better approach the craft. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and also found the studio space to be bright, clean and superbly organised. Give this a go!

A Ton of Fun

Jeffrey was very accommodating, and a very patient instructor. The workshop was booked as a birthday gift for my partner, and Jeffrey was so kind to work with our schedule. The workshop was a ton of fun, if also a bit of work 😛 Jeffrey was very well prepared and had even printed and processed our design ideas before we arrived. He was very knowledgeable, and also able to make his knowledge understandable to us, the novices. We are both thrilled with our prints and look forward to using the tips Jeffrey gave on finding supplies to continue this new hobby. Recommended without reservation!

Patient and Kind

Super fun! Lucky to enjoy a 1:1 session with Jeff who is a great, patient and kind teacher. The process was smooth and clear and I’m walking away with the knowledge and enthusiasm to practise more myself. Studio space is lovely and bright— could easily spend longer playing around with the technique. Highly recommend and would be happy to come back next time I’m visiting Singapore.

Beautiful Conducive Studio

Jeffrey did a very detailed but not overwhelming introduction to paper marbling covering techniques to create different patterns. The terms and tools are explained and simplified so we can repeat this craft at home. Studio was beautiful and conducive. Highly recommended.

So Calming

I really recommend this class to anyone who is looking for fun. Let me tell you I have no artistic background whatsoever, I am more of a numbers person. I took this class because I was interested in the idea of paper marbling and I didn't expect I would do really good, But I produced 5 really pretty awesome pieces of art. In addition to that, the whole process is so calming. I really recommend this taking this class! I am actually going to recommend it to my work friends and might do a group event too!

Fun and Memorable

I really enjoyed the paper marbling class. Jeff was patient with us and ensured the techniques were easy to understand. He was also ready to provide advice whenever we needed help. The small class size was also very conducive to learning and we were all able to learn from one another. It was an extremely fun and memorable experience that I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to learn something new.
